Knowledge verses Faith

“Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.” (1 Corinthians 8:1)

The Bible says that in the end time knowledge would be increased. In the last 200 years mankind has developed more technology and learned more things about the earth than he has in the previous 5800 years. There are discoveries being made in every field of endeavor that mankind has investigated. We now live in a world where technology is at our fingertips and we can communicate and get information instantly. But although man has so much clear and concise knowledge available, he does not necessarily think correctly.

Knowledge allows us to look at the walls of Jericho and examine their height and thickness, what they are made of and tell us that three chariots can ride abreast on top of the wall, but it was faith that caused the walls to fall down flat. Knowledge can enable us to see the storm, gage the intensity of the wind and the waves, and although knowledge enables us to learn many different aspects of the storm, it is faith that calms the storm. Knowledge lets us look at a little boy’s lunch and see a few fish and a couple loaves of bread. But it was by faith that Jesus took those few fish and couple of loaves and fed 5000 people when knowledge said it could not be done. It is faith that will tear down the walls, calm the storms and supply the needs in our lives.

Knowledge tells us how to be saved and yet there are many who know the plan of salvation and do not follow it. Faith is what causes us to obey the gospel. Why repent, be baptized, or filled with the Holy Ghost if you don’t believe you’re going to be forgiven, have your sins washed away and receive eternal life? Why live a holy life if you don’t believe in a judgement or in God’s rewards? The Bible say, “But without faith it is impossible to please him:” (Hebrews 11:6) Jesus in speaking to His disciples once asked, “When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8) Although there is a plentiful supply of knowledge there seem to be a drastic lack of faith in our world. The church can accomplish great and marvelous things with this great gift of faith that Jesus Christ has given us. We can tear down the devil’s strongholds and build up the kingdom of Jesus Christ. All by faith!

So, let’s not just let knowledge guide our steps but let’s use our faith to believe God for the great and mighty things He is wanting to do for us if we will only have faith.
