Where is your Stability?
When I was in the Navy I was stationed for a time in San Francisco. I attended school on an island beneath the Golden Gate bridge, and the Oakland Bay bridge. Suddenly one day, the earth began to shake. My feet were shaking, the desk was shaking, the light fixtures were swinging back and forth and thebirds outside were squawking like I had never heard them. An earthquake does not give any notice it just hits and there is noset time limit as to how long it will last. I was scared, as waseverybody else in the room.
I was raised in a denominational church setting. I made my firstcommunion, I was confirmed and every now and then I would attenda service. I thought I was saved. I thought Mary was the mediator who went and interceded to Jesus, and then Jesus interceded to the Father on my behalf. There are a lot of peoplewho believe this.
Before I was in an earthquake I had never given this line of communication with God much thought. The earthquake that I was in shook me on the outside and made me afraid. But an even worse shaking took place in me when I found out that I was not saved because I had not followed the Biblical plan of salvation.I was shaken to my very core because I wanted to be saved!
In Matthew 7:24 – 27, Jesus tells the story of two men. One of them built his house on rock, and the other built his house on sand. When the rains and the winds came the house on sand fell, because it was not set on a firm foundation. But the house on the rock stood tall and strong and withstood the storm because it’s foundation was solid.
I want my salvation to be founded upon a rock, the rock of JesusChrist. I want to know that my salvation is founded upon what the Word of God says not on any man’s tradition. When the shaking and quaking of life comes my way, I will be able to stand strong and stable in my salvation. Tradition is like building your salvation on sand. Traditions shift and change with the times and with man’s thinking. Will your tradition hold when the storms come and will it get you all the way to heaven?
I’m glad that I can look in the Bible and find the salvation plan. I can stand on it. It is firm. When everything else aroundme is shaking, the solid rock of Jesus will remain steady. My salvation will get me all the way to heaven, will yours? Acts 2:37 – 39 “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and toyour children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as theLord our God shall call.”
