Noah’s Ark
“And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence…” Genesis 6:13
“And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh…” Genesis 6:17
God gave specific instructions for the construction of the ark. It was to be 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits in heights. Most Bible scholars believe the cubit to be 18 inches. So the ark would have been 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high. But what was the construction of the ark? Was the construction of the ark suitable to handle violent storms and weather that was taking place during the flood? Most boats have a tapered front, but the ark was not designed like this. It was a huge box, in fact, the ark was a large barge. It was built to withstand the rigors of huge tidal waves without capsizing and was completely waterproof. It was not madeto be sailed nor was it for speed. The ark was built of gopher wood, that was covered with pitch, a waterproofing material, to keep the water out. It had one door and one window and there were three levels or stories to the ark.
The U.S. Naval institute took the dimensions of the ark, put them in a computer and built a scale model. They then tested it by simulating massive tidal waves. No matter what they did the ship was always right side up. The Navy found the ark to be a perfect water vessel.
The church, universal and triumphant, is the ark of God. Storms of may rage flinging us to and fro on the sea of life, but as long as we are in the ark there is safety and we will never capsize. Why? because it is founded in Jesus Christ. To enter the ark you had to go through the one door, there was no other way. And Jesus is our door. Jesus said, I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved… John 10:9
Entering that door means going in God’s way and just as there were three levels to the ark God has three steps to take as we enter into salvation. They are repenting of our sins, being baptism in Jesus Name and receiving the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
There also was one window in the ark. God does not leave us in darkness, but lights the way. .
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. I Thessalonians 5:5
A safe place is waiting for you inside God’s ark (the church) today.
