Dreams. We have them when we sleep. When we close our eyes we have the ability to think up and imagine things that are otherwise impossible in real life. For a lot of people, dreams are, more often than not, better than reality. We can do things, impossible things. We can go places we couldn’t afford or have time to go to in real life. We can be anything, do anything. We can have all the money we need. We can be famous. Whatever your imagination can create, that is the limit for a dream. The thing is, sometimes our minds can think of some pretty scary things which leads to nightmares rather than dreams. Nightmares that can make reality scary to live. Most of the time, we aren’t in control of our dreams. There are people in this world that believe that their life will only be a good life in their dreams because that is where they can be whatever they want. I know the secret to living the best life, one even better than a dream. It’s the life God can give you. Yea, okay, it might sound cliché. But God is the one who is bigger and more powerful than our minds and imaginations. That means he can actually give you a better life than you could ever imagine or think. Amazing right?!
So this is how it all works. God created us. He therefore created our minds, he knows our imaginations, our dreams themselves. He knows them before they even come into our heads at night as we lay down to sleep. He has the power to make our dreams a reality. He is the only one who can do that. That is it. That is what God can do. You’re sitting there saying to yourself “okay, Lindsay, now tell me the catch, tell me how to have God do this in my life.” Okay so here is your answer, you have to be willing to give him those dreams. Hand them over to God willingly. You have to put aside the dreams you have for yourself in order to receive the real life dreams God has for you. You might be thinking that it’s not fair to have to hand over your dreams. Well, let me just say, what God has in store for your life is far more rewarding than anything you could have done yourself. But we have to be willing to take up our cross in order to reap the blessings and dreams God has for our lives. We must lay down our lives to get a better one.
God tells us in Matthew 16:24-26 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?”
So you see, God wants us to be willing to sacrifice a life that we could give ourselves in order for Him to give us a life he can make for us. The thing about God is that he always wants what is best for us and he knows our individual limits. Meaning, he knows what each and every one of us can handle. What I can handle in my life before I start to get stressed out will be different than what someone else can handle. And God knows that. So He will not put us through something that we cannot handle. God is a God of love and mercy and he only wants the best life for us. But it is up to us to take the chance, have faith for what we do not know and cannot see, and trust in Him. I wrote a blog on faith and trust last Friday, and that is something that holds people back from moving forward with God because its hard to trust something that we cannot physically see with our own eyes. But that’s what it’s all about. That is the meaning of faith. We are the only ones who can choose this life that is better and bigger than our dreams. We must be the ones to say “Okay God, I am ready for you to take me to a new place, a place better than my dreams and I fully trust that you will take me there. It might not look like the path I would take, but you know better than I what I need in my life.”
Matthew 7:13-14 says, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat; Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Please don’t be a part of the “many” which go the broad way with the wide gate. Be a part of the few who take the narrow gate. Those are the people who choose faith and trust. They are the ones who will see a life bigger, better, and more beautiful than their dreams. It will be the life that they never imagined. A life lived with a full heart.
Dreams. They can be beautiful. They can seem like the best way to live your life. Some people choose to live their life through their dreams. But the bad thing about them is that you will always wake up. Choose a better version of life with the One who can give it to you. God will always give you the best life. Don’t sleep through life. Wake up, choose a better way to live, pick up your cross, and follow the dream maker.
