A Few Of My Favorite Things – Lindsay Schmidt
October 18, 2019

Today is my 28th birthday. I am not saying that to get more comments on my Facebook and Instagram pages, or to receive more texts and phone calls. I say that because I want to remind us of something important today on my birthday. It’s a simple thought, but one that I love and so I want to share it today. We grow older everyday. Life will pass us by, in seconds, minutes, hours and years. Our children will grow up and get older. Our lives change. We will gain wisdom. We will make new friends, we may lose some. Our families will grow and change. There will be people who come in and out of our lives that will change us for the better, some will leave us bruised and broken. These things are inevitable. This is life in our world. The earth won’t stop turning, the sun won’t stop shining. Tomorrow will start a new day, no matter how much we might wish it wouldn’t or maybe your praying for tomorrow. There are some things that will never change, no matter how much time passes or life changes. One of those is God. God will never change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:8). We will always and forever, as long as we live, have Him to be there with us through our lives. Don’t ever stop knowing that. Keep that with you no matter what else changes in your life.

Second, kindness can never be outgrown. No matter your age, you are never too old or too young for kindness to look good on you. Don’t be afraid to spread it wherever you go and whatever you do. Do not let someone’s unkindness toward you change your kindness towards others. Of these three things faith, hope, and love, the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). Love is kindness. And kindness is love. God says it’s importance is above faith and hope. Let us carry it throughout our days. And lastly, a smile. Every smile is unique, different and beautiful in its own way. Share yours. Life will try to take the smile from your face, you will face things that are hard, situations will come along that will make you want to cry, but tomorrow is another day. Keep smiling even through the hardest of times and you will be able to get through life with many more happy memories than sad.

I know that these are very simple things, but when I think back on my life 50 birthdays from now, I want to remember that I never forgot to call on God when I was in need of when I just wanted to show him some love. He was always there and I never forgot that. I want to remember the many times I chose kindness over hate and the lives that were possibly changed because of that. And I want to know that I chose to smile and laugh through the hardest or times. We only get one very short life. Our time in this earth might seem so long to us, but to a God of no time, it is but a moment. These days are the most important days. The ones that make up your eternity. Choose God. Choose kindness. Choose to smile. Choose a life worth remembering. I am thankful for my 28 years in this world. I’m looking forward to the next 50.

He gives us Roots so we can Fly. Roots and Wings.
