Psalm 103 Of David (NIV)
"1 Praise the LORD, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. 2 Praise the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: 3 who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, 4 who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, 5 who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's. 6 The LORD works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed. 7 He made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the people of Israel: 8 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. 9 He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; 10 he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. 11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him; 14 for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust. 15 As for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; 16 the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. 17 But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children. 18 with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts."
Today, I simply wanted to remind us of our God. The God who sits in heaven in all of his glory. The God who is like no other God. The one who formed us from the dust of the ground. He loves us. You. Wherever you are, whatever you may be doing or going through right now. He knows you. He loves you. We make mistakes. We fall, get up, then fall again. But He is there still. Loving.
Let us not forget that our lives are short. As the verse says, our days are like grass that blows away with the wind. They are here now, but tomorrow will be gone. We should not waste our days, our numbered days, on things that hold no true value. Our treasure is not here on this earth but in heaven. Our God loves, forgives, holds fast to his commandments and promises to us, his children and to our children and their children. He is here with us everyday. He heals us when we are sick. He keeps us safe. He will not be quick to get angry every time we sin. He knows we will, over and over again. But chooses instead to love us anyways. Don’t waste time thinking you are special enough for God to hate you because of your sin. He will not. He does not.
It is so very easy to get caught up in the daily hustle and bustle that this world creates for us. But we must remember that we cannot be so busy that we forget about God. I wanted for us to see these verses to remind us of God’s goodness. We can often forget how great he truly is. We can get into the mindset that we have messed up too badly or that we are too far gone for God to still love us. But that way of thinking couldn’t be farther from the truth. We have a God looking over us not with an iron fist waiting to smash us. But a God that looks upon us with so much love, a love deeper than any we could find on this earth. A god that is more faithful than anyone we think we know. A God that will protect us and forgive us more times than anyone on this earth. He is the only true living God and he knows you and me and despite our flaws, he loves us. So, love him back with all you’ve got. And if you get to the point in your life where you doubt who he is or that he can love even you, pull out your bible, turn to Psalm 103 and begin reading the truth about his love for you. He is God. Our God.
He gives us Roots so we can Fly. Roots and Wings.
