The Way Is Narrow – Lindsay Schmidt
November 6, 2020

In this time of harvest, we as God’s people are commanded to search and disciple those who are lost and hungry for the truth, there is no doubt that we as a church are doing everything to open up our arms and welcome any who would wish to come to know God. This is the harvest we have been praying for, we have read about for years in the word such as here in Matthew 9:37 where it says, “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few.”

Isn’t that so amazing and upsetting at the same time? That in our world there is a huge harvest of souls that are ready to hear the good news of the Lord, but as for those who are to labor in the harvest, they are few. Church, now is the time to stand up and boldly declare the truth.

Speaking of the truth, let’s talk about that for a minute. Did you know that the last verses in the bible speak on this matter? Let’s take a look together: Revelation 22:18-21 says, For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. God tells us in these verses that if someone were to add anything to this book, he will add the plagues spoken about in these pages to their life. If anyone were to take truth from this book and act as if it isn’t there, God will take their name out of the book of life! Meaning, when the rapture comes and we, along with those we’ve discipled, are all called up into heaven and we come face to face with our Holy God, he will look into his book of life, and that name will not be there, he will not know them. That is how important this Word is to God.

Church, it is not okay to take the Word of the Lord and to make it our own. The bible is not a rough draft God has given to us to change and take away from and add to. The bible is a FINAL COPY written and given to us as a gift that we are honored to be able to live by and share with everyone we meet. The Word tells us this in 2 Peter 1:20-21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

There are some out there in the world walking the path of trying to disciple lost souls by way of speaking and teaching the Word to them. However, what sets the two groups of laborers (as God calls us) apart is that one group is teaching the Word as it is, word for word, making no changes. The other group, will do anything to see souls on their pews and therefore will change the Word, alter it, maybe just a bit, to fit each and every lost soul, to make them feel comfortable.

Let me tell you, even if you alter the Living Word just a bit, you are altering it all the same. God wants to see each and every soul on earth saved, that is how he intended for it to be, however, his word is as it is, perfect. We are not to let the word be changed in order to fit each person in the world.

We as laborers want to see each and every lost soul come to know God and live for him but in order for that to happen, they have to hear the Word as it is written by God, not the altered version we have written for them. If we altered the Word in order to make someone feel comfortable each time we encounter a hurting, hungry soul, the word would be changed so many times that there would be no truth left in it.

You might be asking yourself, what are the benefits of following the Word of God? And I can say that there are many benefits of trusting and following God’s Word. It is a buffer in this world. Living a life that follows God’s word will place a hedge of protection around us. The word can guide us through times of uncertainty. It shows that what happened a long time ago can still happen today in our daily life. The Word is a Living Word, it is not dead and not lost for our time now. It is very much alive and true for our world today. If we stick to the Word as closely as we can, then we will see that God’s protection is covering over us, His blessings are being poured out unto us, and we will receive answers we are looking for through this Word.

But, if we stray away from this Word, that leaves us open to temptation and to the enemy’s attack in our lives. It leaves us without answers and truth and it leaves us wondering exactly how we are supposed to be living according to God’s will and not our own. God wants our lives to be blessed and protected and that is why He has made it written in the last verses how important it is not to add or take away anything from what he has written. The most important thing for those who are searching for the truth, and for those who are teaching the truth, is to follow what is actually written in the Word, with no additions or subtractions, as individuals should dig into the Word for ourselves and discover the truth that is inside. If we are hungry and in need of the truth, God is going to reveal it to us. Learning of God more and more every day will develop us into the disciple makers, actively working in the harvest as we’re commanded.

God only wrote one bible. Everything else is only a different representation come about by human minds, and we are NOT GOD. Keep the word as it is. Lives are dependent on it. Souls are wanting the truth, not an altered version of it. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Matthew 7:13-14. Let us not be a reason that someone doesn’t make it into the narrow gates of heaven. Be the light God created for you to be.

He gives us Roots so we can Fly. Roots and Wings.
