As people who believe in God, we have people come up against us often with questions or statements such as this:
“You seriously believe that someone created all of this?”
“How do you believe in something you’ve never seen with your eyes?”
“That’s not a miracle, that’s coincidence.”
“You guys are crazy jumping and moving the way you do.”
“How can you believe in a book?”
Sure, it sounds like it could be some story from a fictional book. A woman gets pregnant by God with the savior of the world. He grows up a carpenter doing miracles on the side (or vice versa). People love him, then hate him, then hang him, then he comes back from the dead and goes up into heaven and lives with us forever now. I get why people could be skeptical at first. If you just hear stories from other people around you and you never experience anything for yourself. BUT, and that is a big but, there is no denying what you believe and feel when you experience HIM for yourself.
You see, it is so easy for people to deny and ignore something they have never seen or felt for themselves before. It’s like aliens…do you think they are out there if you have never seen one for yourself before? The difference comes when you pick up a bible with your own hands and begin reading the words written on those pages. When you make your way to a church and sit on a pew and feel something you have never felt inside of you before. When you see someone close to you near death and then suddenly, they make a recovery even the doctors cannot explain. When you hit your very own rock bottom and as you cry out for the first time to the God you didn’t think you believed in and He responds. These moments make the difference in unbelief and believing. But you may never get a moment like these if you don’t make the effort to see Him. To feel Him. To search for Him. See, He gave us a free will. He did not place us in chains bound to his heavenly throne to worship him forever. He wants us to want him. He desires for us to love him freely, to search for him, to reach for him. And when we do that, He never leaves our side. How does that saying go? Seeing isn’t believing, believing is seeing. Once you have an experience with him, you see him. In all of his glory, in all of his beautiful light, in all of his ways, everywhere in your life. No more searching. No more wondering. He is just there. And He will never leave.
Scientist base what they know off of the facts they find around them. Believers base their belief off of what they feel inside of them, what they have witnessed, our testimonies. Although we may not be able to describe what we feel with facts, we can take you to a place where you can feel it too. We can show you in the word where God makes promises and we can tell you that we know those promises to be true because He has kept them for us, and He will do the same for you. We believe because we have seen. We believe because He has been faithful.
The meaning of the word miracle: a surprising and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore considered to be the work of a divine agency. There are no facts in miracles. That is why it is a miracle. The Bible is a work written by men that God spoke the words into and they recorded them. It might be tough for someone who hasn’t experienced God to believe what is written in it. But for those of us that have experienced Him, those words are a guide for us to live by, beautifully written words that pour hope and faith into every part of our being. Why is that? How is that? Because the Word and God go hand in hand. What is written on those pages is what we experience, what we feel, what we see to be true about God.
Some put their faith in beautiful stones, some put their faith in the universe, some put their faith in things they have made with their own hands, idols, pillars, some claim to have faith in nothing. I have felt my God. I have seen the work of His hands in my life. I have felt him living inside of me. I have seen with my own eyes things He has done, miracles. I have spoken to Him and have seen His guidance. I have read His word and seen it come to life in my own life. No one can take those experiences from me and no one could ever tell me that my God is not real. I put my faith in that, those moments that He has given to me, my testimony. What do you put your faith in? Are you waiting for something you see before you believe? Are you even giving God a chance to show you who He truly is? Are you waiting for Him to reach out to you? Or will you take that step, the very first step in your walk of faith and believing? Once you do, you will never turn back to a life of unbelief. God will not fail to make you believe. He will fulfill every expectation and more. He will give you your very own testimony. So, today I ask you to have faith. Faith: complete trust or confidence in someone or something. Have faith in what you cannot see yet. God promises to never leave nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8). Make today your start in faith. Pick up that bible you have never touched. Begin a conversation with God. Talk to someone you know who knows God and start asking your questions. It all starts with a little faith.
He gives us Roots so we can Fly. Roots and Wings.
